The 2025 4Runner still looks like a 4Runner

The 2025 Toyota 4Runner looks familiar because Toyota deliberately reused two recognizable details: the quarter glass that wraps into the roof edge and the rear window that lowers into the tailgate. Toyota links the glass treatment to the first two generations in its sixth-generation reveal. Those details explain the family resemblance more precisely than calling every upright SUV a two-box design.

The trim question requires a second pass. Trailhunter combines bronze 18-inch wheels, a bronze TOYOTA grille with an integrated light bar, an ARB roof rack and a high-mounted air intake. Toyota’s production-lineup release identifies those as Trailhunter equipment. The same release distinguishes its Old Man Emu shocks from the FOX equipment on TRD Pro. A roof rack or replacement wheels alone cannot authenticate a trim; the original window sticker is stronger evidence on a modified vehicle.

The body also cannot settle the suspension question. Toyota describes a steel ladder frame, double-wishbone front suspension and a multi-link coil rear layout. “Multi-link” describes the locating links; it does not by itself mean that the rear wheels move independently. The previous version of this article incorrectly treated that phrase as proof that the live axle had disappeared. That inference has been removed.

For a used-car listing, identify the generation from the glass and body first, then confirm the grade and powertrain from the vehicle record. Toyota’s later launch release planned dealer arrivals for January 2025; the earlier reveal’s launch forecast should not be used as a current inventory promise.
