The 2026 Outback finally looks like a new Outback

The 2026 Outback is Subaru’s seventh generation, with a new body design rather than another grille revision. Subaru’s U.S. announcement describes an upright front fascia, vertically positioned headlights, a taller and boxier profile, and a wider rear roof pillar. These changes offer a more reliable generation check than a paint color or wheel alone.

The rear light signature spans the liftgate, and the lower rear fascia carries embossed SUBARU lettering on a removable hitch-cover section. That is a useful second view when a front photograph could be confused with another tall Subaru SUV. The textured lower front fascia is described as improving scratch resistance; it is not proof that a particular car has been driven off-road.

Wilderness is a separate identification problem. Subaru specifies unique bumpers and cladding, anodized copper accents, matte-black 17-inch wheels and 9.5-inch ground clearance for Wilderness, compared with 8.7 inches on the other Outback trims. Its turbo engine does not make every turbocharged XT an identical-looking Wilderness.

Roof-rail ratings also need context. The Premium equipment list gives an 800-pound static rating and a 220-pound dynamic rating. A parked-load figure is not a driving-load allowance. Confirm the exact trim and roof equipment before using either figure.
