The 2027 BMW X5 still wears double-X lights

The double-X light icons identify BMW’s fifth-generation X5 design, but they can also be simplified. BMW’s U.S. 2027 X5 and iX5 announcement says drivers can switch the double-X graphic off to reveal diagonal icons. A different light display on the same vehicle therefore need not indicate a different generation.

The new family also uses vertical Iconic Glow kidneys and Winglet door handles integrated near the B- and C-pillars. BMW describes common proportions across the X5 and battery-electric iX5, while explaining that front-apron designs vary by drivetrain. The shared lighting theme cannot establish whether a vehicle is the gasoline X5, plug-in hybrid or iX5.

Availability is staged. The release schedules X5 40 xDrive for October 2026, followed by X5 40, X5 50e xDrive and iX5 60 xDrive in the first quarter of 2027. It puts further variants, including a V8 M Performance model, later. It does not say that the entire range arrives in that first quarter.

For a particular car, match the badge and original configuration to the model-specific specification. A press photograph shows the intended design; it does not prove that every announced variant is already at a U.S. dealer.
