The 2027 Land Rover Defender wears darkened tail lights

The 2027 Defender pages list darkened tail lights on the lighting lines. Signature DRL is the include-line split. Those pages do not print Alpine lights.

Do the darkened tail lights on a 2027 Land Rover Defender pick the 90, the 110, or OCTA? They pick none of them. Land Rover’s U.S. models page is titled Defender 2027, and its exterior lighting lists print darkened tail lights, with a center high-mounted stop light on the line above. The 90, 110, 130, and OCTA specification pages print that same pair. The 110 page is titled Defender 2027 as well. The 90 and 130 page titles do not repeat the year.

The truck in that frame is a 2022 Defender 90. The file calls it a 2022 Defender 90 2.0 and places the picture in Stratford-upon-Avon on November 7, 2022. A photograph’s date is not the model year, and a photograph taken in England is not a U.S. trim. The view is the rear three-quarter: blue paint under a white roof, steel wheels, a spare wheel on the side-hinged rear door, and the vertical tail lamp at the rear corner.

Land Rover’s July 16, 2025 U.S. note, datelined Mahwah, describes an upgrade across the 90, the 110, and the 130, including OCTA. The opening calls it flush rear lights with smoked lenses. The exterior section calls the lamps flush-fitting tail lights with a dark tinted finish, and it says the redesigned headlights provide a distinctive signature when lit. That note does not name a model year. The May 18, 2026 U.S. note, also datelined Mahwah, says that new for 2026, all Defender models get a facelift, and it names a redesigned front headlight and rear taillight signature. The 2027 lists use the words darkened tail lights. The Stratford lamp is the corner lamp on this 2022 door.

The include line is where the pages split

The lighting lists share the darkened tail lights. Signature DRL is where the include lists diverge: the 90 S, 110 S, and 130 S lists print LED headlights with signature DRL, and so does OCTA, while the other include lists on those pages leave it off. A highlight list is not a full build. The lighting list itself names darkened tail lights, a center high-mounted stop light, and front fog lights, and leaves the signature DRL off that block.

The nose is the same 2022 Defender 90, in Stratford-upon-Avon. The frame is the front three-quarter: blue paint, a white roof, steel wheels, DEFENDER lettered along the leading edge of the hood, and a round lamp set inside a squared housing. The 2020 U.S. introduction calls those headlamps geometric, and it calls the wheel arches squared. The 2025 note describes a signature that appears when the headlight is lit, and the 2027 S and OCTA include lines name LED headlights with signature DRL. The housing in this frame is the squared opening on that 2022 nose.

The spare is the older sentence

The 2020 U.S. introduction gives the new Defender Alpine light windows in the roof, and it keeps a side-hinged rear tailgate and an externally mounted spare wheel. The same release says the short rear overhang comes from mounting the spare outside, rather than under the floor. The Stratford frame shows that spare on the side-hinged door. The 2027 lighting lists leave Alpine lights and the side-hinged door off the page, and name a tail door as the gloss black spoiler on OCTA and on Vertex.

The longer truck is a Defender 130 of the L663 generation, photographed in Neu-Ulm on April 28, 2024. The file does not give it a model year. A photograph’s date is not the model year, and a photograph taken in Germany is not a U.S. trim. The frame is the rear three-quarter: a dark grey body, a black roof, an alloy spare on the rear door, vertical tail lamps, and a long side with an extra rear quarter window. That window is the glass along the side. The 2020 introduction’s Alpine lights are roof panels, and the 2027 pages leave both those panels and a spare wheel off the lists.

What the lamp leaves open

EPA’s 2027 Land Rover page lists three Defender rows, each an automatic on premium gasoline: a 110 MHEV, 4.4 liters, at 15 city, 19 highway, and 17 combined; a 110 Trophy MHEV, 3.0 liters, at 17, 18, and 17; and a 130 Outbound, 3.0 liters, at 17, 19, and 18. The page’s other rows are Range Rovers. The darkened-tail line does not pick the row, the body, or the trim. The photographs are a 2022 Defender 90 and a Defender 130 photographed in 2024. The 2027 pages describe the lighting. The window sticker, not the lamp, settles the model year.
